Flood Emergency Impacting WA Orders
You may have seen the news in regards to flooding impacting deliveries between the Eastern Australian states, and Western Australia.
However, we need to share another critical update about ongoing Western Australia (WA) delivery disruptions.
Currently, estimates put standard delivery times to and from WA at an additional 2 weeks.
There is also a 40% cost increase for all orders destined for WA, resulting from a levy imposed by Australia Post.
We have tried to absorb this cost for as long as possible. Unfortunately, it is not economically viable to continue to do so.
If you are shipping your order to WA, you will see a levy imposed on both Standard and Express shipping methods at checkout.
The Background
Extreme weather conditions and flooding have caused significant disruption and unavailability of rail lines to and from WA.
As a result, Australia Post has enacted a 'force majeure' clause.
Until critical lines resume normal operations in 2023, Australia Post has set up a replacement 'WA Emergency Service' to keep deliveries running.
Due to the nature of this emergency service, delivery costs to and from WA will temporarily increase.
What Is a 'Force Majeure'?
A 'force majeure' is an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond reasonable control. In this instance, extreme weather conditions and flooding have created significant disruption and unavailability of rail lines, resulting in the 'force majeure' clause being enacted.
How Does this Impact Christmas Deliveries?
Deliveries to WA from NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD and TAS must be lodged by 8 Dec 2022 to arrive before Christmas.
When Will the Flood Impact Be Resolved?
The impact of the flooding is expected to continue for the remainder of 2022, with normal operations estimated to resume in January 2023.
More About the Levy
The WA Emergency Service attracts a temporary levy of 40% (ex GST) increase to current freight charges. This levy applies to all deliveries into or from WA.
Our Alternative Recommendation
At this time, we recommend all customers use the Express Post option at checkout for orders destined for WA.
